Setup Reading Goals: Do you know to keep track of how much time you spend reading each day or how many books you read in a year? If you have book reading goals, then the Apple Books app can help.

A handy feature in the Books app lets you set Reading Goals. Just reach your goal and share your achievements when you do.

How to Enable Reading Goals

Just verify that the Reading Goal feature is turned on and it includes PDFs as part of your goal, follow these steps.

Step 1:

At first, just open Settings and choose Books.

Step 2:

Turn on the toggle for Reading Goals.

Step 3:

If you want PDFs to apply to those goals, allow that toggle too.

Note: You’ll also see a link to Clear Reading Goals Data. It’s something to keep in mind if you want to delete that data down the road.

Setup your Reading Goals

Once you open the Books app on your iPhone or iPad and click the Reading Now tab. Here you’ll see a link at the top for New! Read more with daily reading goals. Click that link or just scroll to the bottom of the screen.

Daily Reading Goal

By default, your daily Reading Goal set to five minutes. But of course, you can select your own. Click it and then tap Adjust Goal to choose the number of minutes per day for your goal. Click Done

When you read books (or PDFs) in the Books app, you’ll see how close you get to your goal each day. And if you achieve it, you’ll see a notification. You can also share that achievement by clicking the Reading Goal and then Share.

Yearly reading goal

You can set up a yearly Reading Goal as well. It’ll include the number of books you read and is directly below your daily Reading Goal.

Click the yearly goal and then Adjust Goal. Choose the number of books you want to read in a year and click Done when you finish.

When you finish books, they will show in the yearly Reading Goal area for easy tracking. Unlike daily goals, you can click the yearly goal and press Share to let others know you fulfill your objectives.

Reading Goal features

When you open the Books app, you’ll see how close you are to reaching your daily goal at the top of the Reading Now tab.

Plus, you can choose right where you left off with your current book by clicking it in the Reading Goals section.
